OTALA.COM

The OTALA.COM system exists on a dual PentiumPro system running Linux (Redhat 6.0, with SMP kernel 2.2.13 and some pretty severe modifications - yes, I like hacking Linux...)

The site is self-contained, all services such as DNS, FTP, mail (SMTP, IMAP, POP3), HTTP are supported. As a backup, the system is mirrored to a second server, which also acts as a secondary DNS server. Connection to Internet is through a SDSL router at 416kB from Flashcom networks through Northpoint wire.

The Floyd network consists of many workstations, connected to each other at either 10Mbps or 100Mbps throughout the house. As alternative connections, the network also has V.34 and ISDN routers. The network has more than 100GB of combined disk storage and three printers, everything accessible on each machine.

OTALA.COM also houses a number of additional, not-for-profit web sites

Another special feature handled by OTALA.COM are the mailing lists & aliases of Ex-Alcom and Ex-Frontier-GlobalCenter engineers...

• The purpose of the email aliases is to provide a way to reach old colleagues, no matter how many times they have changed jobs and email addresses. I try to keep the addresses up to date, so you don't.
• All aliases are in the form of Firstname.Lastname@otala.com, for example taneli.otala@otala.com
• Unfortunately as the spam has gotten nowadays so serious, I don't dare to list the available aliases here... you can just try to send mail to a person you know and see if it goes through.
• Mail is configured to return failed messages directly back to sender.

This web site, and all other web sites hosted at this system are private. The computers, the computing power, the bandwidth is owned and operated by the Otala family. Any unauthorized use of these computing resources, especially for purposes of sending mass email is prohibited. This system resides in the state of California, where any kind of spamming is a criminal offense. No user of this system has or will consent to receiving advertisements or any other unsolicited email transmissions and any infractions may be prosecuted. This site does not allow relaying email. All web sites hosted at this system are also bound to this acceptable use policy.
